This is not an easy post to write. But the people of Banbury Grimsbury & Castle elected me to represent them honestly, and honesty requires me to share this.

I have spent some time sitting with that news before deciding to make it public. I wanted to understand what it means for my health, for my treatment, and for my ability to fulfil my elected role. I am now in a position to tell you what I know.

I intend to continue as your County Councillor. I am receiving treatment, and I have the full support of my family. There will be days when I am not at full capacity, and I want to be upfront about that rather than pretend otherwise. But I am not stepping back. The issues that matter to this area of Banbury — roads, housing, health services, community safety — do not pause, and neither will I. Unfortunately my  cancer didn't get the memo, it doesn't pause. Although the medics are trying to establish the nature of my cancer, I do know that it is very aggressive and the prognosis isn't good.

If there are periods when I need to reduce my workload, I will communicate that clearly. I will not disappear without explanation.

I considered keeping this private. It is, after all, a medical matter. But I am a public representative, and the people I serve have a right to know if something significant is affecting my life. I also think there is value in speaking openly about serious illness. Too many people face a diagnosis like this in silence, unsure whether to tell their employer, their neighbours, their community. I do not want to add to that silence.

I have spent my adult life believing that public service matters — that showing up, listening, and fighting for your community makes a difference. That belief has not changed. If anything, a diagnosis like this sharpens your sense of what is worth fighting for.

I am fighting for my health. I am also fighting for this division.

To be clear: I am being treated for stage 4 pancreatic cancer at the Brodey Centre. However, the new accommodation for the cancer centre isn't going to be commissioned until well after my cancer has dealt its final blow.
