The Brodey Cancer Centre provides vital cancer care and support services to patients and families across Banbury and the surrounding area. Residents and patients are deeply concerned about the future of this facility — its location, accessibility, and long-term security must be guaranteed.
The Brodey provides vital cancer treatment services to Banbury and its sub-region. Its current premises are inadequate and increasingly unsafe for the growing needs of the community. Prompt action is necessary to ensure that patients receive care in an environment that meets modern standards and allows for future expansion.
With an ageing population, the number of people presenting with cancer is increasing year on year. This has resulted in a significant number of patients being referred to the Brodey by the Churchill Hospital, placing existing overstretched facilities under considerable pressure.
Travel between the Brodey's catchment and Oxford has negative impacts on patients, the built and natural environment, and contributes to congestion in the City. It is generally agreed that people should be able to live well and independently closer to home.
Cancer treatment is one of the most stressful experiences any person can face. Patients and their families need a stable, accessible, and well-resourced centre close to home. Disruption to cancer services has a direct impact on outcomes and on the wellbeing of some of our most vulnerable residents.
