Council motion — 8 September 2026

Rehouse the Brodey Cancer Centre

Hundreds of north Oxfordshire patients depend on the Brodey Centre every week. On 8 September I will present a motion to Oxfordshire County Council calling for a purpose-built, properly resourced home for this vital service. I need your name on the petition before that vote.

Why this matters

The Brodey Cancer Centre at Horton General Hospital serves patients from Banbury, north Oxfordshire, West Northamptonshire, and Warwickshire. Every week, hundreds of people make that journey for chemotherapy and cancer consultations — many of them already exhausted, many of them frightened.

The current facility was never designed for modern oncology. It is cramped, and it falls short of what patients and clinical staff deserve. This is not a criticism of the exceptional nurses, oncologists, and support staff who work there — it is a criticism of the physical environment they have been asked to work in.

A purpose-built cancer centre for north Oxfordshire would mean better clinical outcomes, shorter journeys for Banbury patients, dignified facilities, and the ability to retain the specialist staff this community needs.

What the motion asks for

On Monday 8 September 2026, I will present a motion to full council calling on Oxfordshire County Council and the NHS Integrated Care Board to commit to a purpose-built, properly resourced home for the Brodey Cancer Centre — one that reflects the dignity and quality of care that every cancer patient deserves.

The motion asks the council to formally support the re-accommodation project and to use its influence with the ICB to accelerate the timeline. It is a statement of intent — and the more signatures I carry into that chamber, the stronger that statement becomes.

"I am being treated for stage 4 pancreatic cancer at the Brodey Centre. I know first-hand what it means to depend on this service. The new accommodation will not be commissioned in time to help me — but it will help the patients who come after me. That is why I am fighting for it."
